The holiday and congress resort Ialysos and Ixia, on Rhodes island Ixia, a part of Ialysos is just two miles from Rhodes Town and ideally located to explore the island. It's the liveliest part, where you'll find numerous of bars, cafes, restaurants and clubs, to choose from. It is a man made resort, boasting some of the best hotels of the island. This area, along the west coast, enjoys a nearly constant breeze (north-northwest ). The pebbled beach is very popular, with lots of people making the most of water sports. Especially the resort is known as a windsurfer's paradise. The north-west wind, called Meltemi, blows in late summer. That's why the sea, at this side of the island, is not so calm, as it is on the other side. It is also the case, that the heat in July and August is much less on the West side of the island. It also has a panoramic view of the nearby Turkish Coastline. The cool breeze make a welcome relief from the heat while you seek out a taverna from the wide section situated along the beach road. Plenty of souvenir shops to choose from and a variety of excellent bars, quit and lively to start or end your evening. Ialysos is a nice place, where the local life takes place, around the square. There you also find the church of our lady. The place is also known as Trianda and is the birthplace of Diagoras, the ancient Olympic champion.
